Happy New Year! This is my first blog post for this year, I am really excited about this year and what it holds. I will be in transition in so many areas of my life and it seems crazy when I stop to think about it but it is a sign that I am alive and fully living life, not just barely surviving it.
The first quarter of this year, (January – April), I am dedicating it to sharing articles, companies, organizations, individuals and quotes that have in one way or the other inspired me. I want to share with you what I will consider the forces that keeps me going in my pursuits.
The next 24 posts will be around City Year’s founding stories. I found these stories to be so inspiring and a dose of positivism for me and I could not resist not sharing it with as many people as I can reach. Note that all of these stories are not my personal writing, they are stories from City Year, you can find out more about them from http://www.cityyear.org .
City Year has one of their core values to be “Idealism”, in my short years in this world, I have been accused more often than not about being ‘too idealistic, too positive’, and essentially most people equate this to being naive. Well, I can tell you that it is not naive thinking. As defined by City Year, ‘Idealism is “the belief that you can change the world and that you have the passion, skills, and courage to do it.” This is not just wishful thinking, it requires a lot of personal work, humility and professional will. It is not easy trying to convince one person to change talk less of trying to change the whole world. It is a big task and the beautiful part is that, not one person can do it. It takes all of us and you have a role to play, you are an important asset and you have the potential, ability and capacity to join forces with other people to create the change you desire in your community, nation and the world as a whole.
I encourage you to start seeing the assets you have personally and the assets you have as a community to bring about the positive things you want to see. I hope the founding stories of City Year will be a catalyst as you develop your muscle, take up your task of being a critical part of changing the world and making it a better place for all of us.
I cannot wait to hear your stories and the adventures you will embark on this year. As always, I am your humble peer in this process as we all work for the greater and common good of the society. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, comments and if you would like to be a guest writer on this blog, I welcome the opportunity.
See You At The Top
